That's how I role / or / roll?

I find that sometimes, I can do really amazing things without even thinking about it. Today I was making fun of myself and I used the statement "Cuz that's how I role" in an Instant Message. My friend told me I need grammar lessons. I realize that English is not my greatest subject, yet I have a point. I decided to look up the definition of "role" and "roll", of course I already know what they mean. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary Online role is defined as:

1 a (1): a character assigned or assumed role of both father and
mother>
(2): a socially expected behavior pattern usually determined by an individual's
status in a particular society
b: a part played by an actor or singer2: a function or part
performed especially in a particular operation or process role in the
negotiations>. (1)

Where in contrast, the word roll simply means "roll", like wheels rolling. The argument in this case becomes, is the phrase "because that's how I roll" actually in the dictionary. It is not and thus can be left to interpretation.

Since I was describing a pattern of behavior, the phrase "that's how I role" could be appropriate in that case. Whereas, if you are describing what kind of vehicle you drive, using the phrase "that's how I roll" would be suggestible. It should be noted that the ultimate authority for this phrase resides online at "Urban Dictionary.com", these phrases found on this website are consistent with street slang and/or local vernacular. Basically it's made up and accepted by the general population; therefore, no matter which way you "roll" the dice you would still get marked on English paper or otherwise for even attempting the use of such a phrase, respectfully.

This is Jay Roberts and this is how I role!
